IHI Dalgakiran turbochargers at ArcelorMittal

The installation and commissioning of a modern IHI-DALGAKIRAN TRE-50-500 turbocharger with a capacity of 100m3/min at the largest Ukrainian metallurgical enterprise is one of the most significant projects of 2019. The goal of the project at PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih was to modernize compressor room No. 2 of the process water supply shop of the mining department to increase the company’s production capacity and save energy. The new equipment had to comply with European quality standards, safety and labor protection regulations.
Process water supply shop No. 2 used outdated compressors installed in the 70s of the last century. They supplied compressed air used in the concentrate and sinter production process. Their service life had a rather negative impact on the energy efficiency of compressed air production. Frequent compressor shutdowns for repairs added to the significant problems of operating outdated equipment.

The design department of Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine conducted a series of studies on the use and application of the equipment of the process water supply shop directly at the customer’s site. It was found that the existing compressor equipment was outdated, did not meet the needs of the enterprise, and also had a negative impact on the production process. Thus, it was decided to install an IHI-DALGAKIRAN TRE series centrifugal compressor with a capacity of 100 cubic meters of compressed air per minute. The selected turbo compressor replaced two old compressors with a capacity of 50m3/min each, which together consumed 640 kW of electricity. And given the TRE-50-500’s 500 kW of power at the same output, the company managed to save about 140 kW of electricity for each hour of operation. In addition, the new equipment is fully automated, has a soft start system and a system of protection against any emergency situations, is convenient and easy to operate, and meets all safety and labor protection standards.

To connect the centrifugal compressor to the existing system, our engineers and specialists from the process water supply shop selected an installation site and built a foundation. Additionally, to meet all the necessary regulatory requirements, a heated supply ventilation system was installed in the plant’s shop.
Along with the turbocharger, DALGAKIRAN specialists implemented a compressed air treatment system based on the MBP-10800 adsorption dryer as part of the project. The use of the air treatment system prevents moisture from entering the company’s pneumatic network, which significantly extends the service life of consumer equipment and pipelines that do not form condensation.
After the turnkey installation, the equipment fully met the customer’s needs in accordance with the technical requirements of the project, which continued the mutually beneficial cooperation between our company and PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih in the modernization of power equipment at the metallurgical enterprise.
