Principle of operation and design of air reciprocating compressors
The essence of the operation of such devices is the compression of air sucked into the cylinder by a piston. The design of such an air compressor is similar to an internal combustion engine. There is a cylinder, a piston, inlet and outlet valves, and a crank or eccentric drive (for low-power models). Only in an internal combustion engine, the piston drives the actuator, but here the actuator connected to an electric motor or an internal combustion engine drives the piston. When the piston rises, a vacuum is created in the cylinder and air is drawn into the cylinder through the intake valve. When the piston moves back, the gas is compressed and its pressure increases. When it reaches a certain value, the spring force of the exhaust valve is overcome, and the air enters either the receiver or the discharge line directly. The receiver (compressed air storage) is used to ensure pressure stability, dampen pulsations and air flow at the outlet of the air compressor. Most models are equipped with this unit.
Types of reciprocating compressors
There are several classifications of such equipment:
By the number of cylinders – single-cylinder and multi-cylinder (high-capacity models).
By the relative position of the cylinders:
in-line – all cylinders are arranged in a straight line;
V-shaped;
W-shaped.
By the number of degrees:
single-stage
two-stage (high-pressure models).
By the type of drive:
coaxial – the drive shaft of the drive is connected to the output shaft of the motor by means of a coupling;
axial – the drive shaft is connected to the motor by a belt drive.
By the presence/absence of a receiver:
with the receiver;
without a receiver.
