CUMMINS diesel generator set for the only rail grinding train in Ukraine

Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine has supplied and commissioned a diesel generator set for the only rail grinding train in Ukraine, the RSP-48K, for a branch of Ukrzaliznytsia JSC.

In December 2019, the Center for the Repair and Operation of Track Machines branch of Ukrainian Railways JSC turned to Dalgakiran to replace the old diesel generator of a rail grinding train. The complexity of the task was that the RSP-48K is the only one in Ukraine and similar replacements of diesel generator sets have never been carried out before.

After analyzing the principles of operation of the rail grinding train, calculating the required power and voltage, the specialists of Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine chose a CUMMINS C1250D6 diesel power plant (UK) with a voltage of 460 V and a non-standard operating frequency of 60 Hz for Ukraine. It was installed as a permanent and main power source in the traction and power section of the train to ensure movement in transport and operating modes, as well as to power the electric motors of the grinding heads.

The power of the CUMMINS C1250D6 power unit:

• constant: 1298 kW;
• peak: 1559 kW.

To reduce fuel consumption in parking lots, power is supplied by an auxiliary 167 kW CUMMINS diesel generator (constant).

Thanks to the combination of main and auxiliary diesel generators, it was possible to achieve the necessary power to ensure the speed of the train in different modes:

• transport – 80 km/h;
• measuring – 10 km/h;
• for a worker – up to 8 km/h.

The specialists of Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine carried out all the necessary tests and in February 2020 commissioned the CUMMINS C1250D6 diesel power plant on the rail grinding train RSP-48K. During the operation, the installed CUMMINS equipment fully coped with the tasks set, meeting all the requirements of the Customer.
