Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol is a diversified enterprise, one of the three largest steel producers in Ukraine and one of the largest exporters in Ukraine. The plant is a full-cycle steelmaking enterprise.

Air for metal

The plant produces hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel plates of a wide range of products, including those for shipbuilding; oil, drill, gas and water pipes. The plant is the only enterprise in Ukraine that produces galvanized sheet and automotive cylinders for liquefied gases.

In recent years, we have built a pipe and electric welding shop, a casting shop, and a lime and kiln shop. An energy building has recently been completed. By the way, the lime and kiln shop is one of the most important divisions of the plant, with favorable working conditions. It was this shop, along with the converter and casting and rolling shops, that was nominated for the occupational safety competition.

The lime and roasting shop has two Merz kilns with one common blower compartment. The shop produces lime, the main consumer of which is the oxygen converter shop. The blower room supplies air for three purposes: for fuel combustion in the kilns, for cooling the finished lime and burning the remaining fuel, and for cooling the burner fuel rods.

The fuel is natural gas, supplied to the furnaces through fuel rods, 48 pieces in each of the two furnaces of the factory. Robuschi blowers were supplied to purge the fuel rods, cool them down and prevent clogging during furnace operation.

Accuracy of live fire control

Three Robuschi blowers supplied by Dalgakiran in 2009-2010 during the overhaul of both Merz kilns in the lime and roasting shop of the plant helped to increase the shop’s productivity from 1170 tons per day to a daily output of 1200 tons.

Another result of the modernization is the elimination of the risk of a significant reduction in production in the event of a blower failure. An additional effect of the equipment provided to the plant’s lime and roasting shop by Dalgakiran is the energy savings achieved by the new units.

The features of the Robuschi air blower units supplied by Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine include simple installation, a small number of moving parts, and, as a result, low operating costs.
