Energy saving works on technical re-equipment of the nitrogen transportation system at PJSC “KAMET-STAL”
KAMET STEEL, a part of Metinvest Holding, has successfully implemented another investment project to carry out energy-saving works on the technical re-equipment of the nitrogen transportation system at PJSC KAMET STEEL.
The project was implemented as part of the plant’s cooperation with YASNO and with the participation of DALGAKIRAN. One of the main goals of the modernization is to save energy and replace outdated ATK 12.5/35 equipment with more technologically advanced IHI-DALGAKIRN turbochargers of the TRE series.
Nitrogen compression at PJSC KAMET STAL is the process of providing the Customer’s technological process with the required amount of compressed nitrogen at elevated pressure for steelmaking using the BOF process, respectively, in the oxygen-converter shop.
Based on the results of the tender and in accordance with the concluded contract, Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine specialists performed a full range of turnkey works on the selection, supply, installation and commissioning of a nitrogen compression system for the needs of the BOF Shop based on 2 units of IHI-DALGAKIRN turbochargers. According to the technical specifications, each of the compressors will provide a nominal nitrogen pressure of 16 bar with a capacity of 8,000 m3/h. The supplied compressor equipment has a hybrid control system, developed individually, which provides a wide range of regulation, namely: a 50% reduction in productivity without loss of specific energy consumption, and has the ability to uniformly reduce productivity to almost 0%, ensuring the reliability of the Customer’s technological process and protection of compressor equipment from pumping processes.
The project included the modernization of the 6 kV power supply system, installation of a soft start device for compressor equipment, provision of a filtration system for the cooling circuit, and installation of a monitoring and automatic control system for the supplied equipment.
As a result of the project implementation, electricity savings amounted to more than 4.2 million kWh in the first quarter of 2024, compared to the electricity consumption of the outdated 12.5/35 ATC. This solution makes it possible to optimize the company’s energy balance and significantly increases the company’s competitiveness in the global market, reducing production costs.
