Diesel generators for power supply of asphalt plants

Even with all the modern technologies, asphalt production is quite energy-intensive and may require mobility, moving the production site closer to the road construction site. Today, all the equipment of a modern asphalt plant can be moved from one site to another in a fairly short time.

The use of equipment for sifting crushed stone, gravel and sand from debris, installations for drying the resulting material and heating it to the temperature required by the technology, as well as mixers for mixing the material with bitumen requires a constant power supply. At the same time, the location of the asphalt plant directly next to the road under construction may not be able to connect to the grid or allocate the power required for production. In this case, it is advisable to use diesel power plants of sufficiently high capacity to supply the plant with autonomous power in a constant mode.

This year, Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine has successfully supplied generator equipment for asphalt plants. One of the projects is the supply and synchronization of three Cummins rental diesel generators with a total capacity of 990 kVA for the main power supply of an asphalt plant in Donetsk region.

To rent diesel generators for more than a month, Dalgakiran service engineers performed all the necessary work on laying cables, connecting, synchronizing and starting the equipment.

Synchronization was important to the customer because the plant’s equipment consumes less electricity at night. At this time, the two generators go into “sleep mode,” which allows the customer to significantly save fuel.

Why is it profitable to rent generators for road construction?

Electricity generated by diesel power plants is relatively expensive – diesel fuel consumption is about 250 g/kW, which is about 5 UAH/kW (2020). But! Transportation of asphalt sometimes hundreds of kilometers away from its installation is also quite expensive. The production volumes of the nearest stationary plant do not always cover the demand. Therefore, road builders install mobile (temporary) plants. At the same time, not all installation points have the opportunity to take free mW from the grid. And even if it is possible, connecting to it may take several months, during which time it will be necessary to design a project, install a transformer, lay a line, etc.

Using an autonomous power supply using diesel generators not only saves time and money, but also eliminates the risk of accidents and power outages.
