Compressed air in the production of metal packaging

Silgan Metal Packaging Brovary is a modern industrial enterprise that is part of the European holding Silgan Metal Packaging. This international holding unites a dozen metal packaging companies operating in Western and Eastern Europe (including Ukraine).

Given the high consumer demand for high-quality tin and aluminum cans, Silgan Metal Packaging has built its own plant in Brovary (Kyiv region), equipped with the latest machinery capable of producing a wide range of products. Today, the plant produces large quantities of round cans of various volumes and diameters, non-round Hansa, Dingley and Club cans, as well as containers of complex shapes. The company’s production facilities also allow it to supply various types of lids to the market (standard, keyed “Easy Open” and easy-to-open “Easy Peel” lids)

A modern metal packaging production line is primarily a high-speed line. Its productivity can exceed 10,000 cans per hour. Therefore, the working units serving the line, such as die cutters, presses, and folding machines, widely use compressed air as a drive. Naturally, the full functioning of pneumatic actuators is unthinkable without a reliable and efficient compressor station.

According to the production conditions, the compressed air needs of the can production shop exceed ¹⁰ m3/min, and in some areas high pressure (up to 13 bar) is required. Taking into account these requirements, the plant purchased a high-performance stationary screw compressor from DALGAKIRAN – DVK 100. Economical, capable of continuous operation for a long time – this compressor, to date, has fully satisfied the needs of the plant’s production line in compressed air.

For high-quality air preparation, in accordance with the requirements of the technological process, Silgan Metal Peccading Brovary also purchased and included in the pneumatic system of the enterprise a refrigerated dryer from MTA (the largest manufacturer of such equipment for the preparation of compressed air) – MP1900 of the Marco Polo series. This reliable medium-duty dehumidifier dries 19^m3 of air per minute to a dew point of ^+3°C, confidently protecting the working surfaces of pneumatic actuators and the company’s pneumatic system from the negative effects of moisture.

The control system implemented at Silgan Metal Peccary Brovary ensures high product quality, and the modern, properly constructed compressed air supply system of the enterprise ensures that the products manufactured will meet the strictest international standards.
