Application of screw pumps in the gelatin production process

Lisichansk Gelatin Plant LLC is an enterprise with more than 50 years of history. During its existence, the plant has mastered several related production areas, including the production of various types of gelatin, organic glue and dental products.
Gelatin at the plant is made from pork skins, which are supplied to the company in frozen form. The main raw material for the product is the connective tissue (collagen) contained in the middle layer of the skin. The first stage of the production process is horizontal doubling of the skins, followed by their grinding and acid or alkaline extraction. During processing, frozen pork skins are mixed with water, resulting in a liquid with complex properties.
To optimize the production process and reduce the cost of finished products in 2020, the company decided to partially re-equip its production facilities by replacing pumps.
Previously, the manufacturer faced the problem that large pieces of pigskin clogged the pumps when pumping pork skins. As a result, production had to be shut down to clean the plants. This affected the volume of finished products.
The specialists of Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine were tasked with the selection and supply of equipment capable of continuously ensuring this process. After studying the specifics of the production process, a BELLIN LTF series screw pump was selected. The equipment is equipped with a loading hopper for improved passage of frozen pig skin.
A screw pump consists of two main parts – a rotor made of a metal screw and a stator made of elastomer. As the rotor rotates, closing and opening areas are created inside the stator, which move along the axis. The viscous medium is pumped through self-priming and displacement. The capacity of the equipment is 40 m3/h and the pressure is 2 bar. The BELLIN LTF screw pump operates at a low speed of 125 rpm. It is worth noting that all BELLIN products are designed and manufactured in Italy and meet all EU sanitary standards.
The factory-installed pump allows for the transfer of two-phase liquids without damaging solids, making it ideally suited for the transfer of frozen pork skins. It provides a steady rather than pulsating flow. Since the equipment has only one moving part, it is reliable and has a long service life, while being easy to maintain and operate. The auger’s operating mode can be easily changed by setting.
The project was implemented in December 2020. After installing a BELLIN screw pump at Lisichansk Gelatin Plant LLC, a stable process of pumping a complex two-phase liquid was ensured. European equipment that meets the highest quality standards was used. Warranty obligations and maintenance will be provided by Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine.
