The use of clean, dry air is extremely important for any air-driven machinery. Moisture, oil or dust in compressed air can cause complex system errors that reduce equipment performance and can affect the quality of the products produced.

This type of dryer is used in almost all areas where compressors are used, such as metallurgy, pharmaceuticals, food and machine building. It is chosen primarily for its energy efficiency and ability to maintain stable operation.

How the refrigerated dehumidifier works

The operation of this type of dehumidifier is based on cooling the air to the dew point and subsequent separation of the resulting condensate.

The device consists of a regenerative and freon circuit, as well as a moisture separation module, all in one compact housing. The regeneration circuit is cooled by an air-to-air heat exchanger, while the freon circuit is cooled by an air-to-refrigerant heat exchanger.

  1. First, the air from the compressor is fed into the regeneration circuit, where it is cooled by a counterflow heat exchanger. The humid air releases some of its heat to the outgoing dry air through the heat exchanger. Thus, already at the first stage, the air is cooled and partially condensed, with minimal energy consumption.
  2. The air then enters a circuit with an air-freon heat exchanger, where its temperature drops to the dew point. The water in the air thus becomes condensate (small water droplets), after which it is separated from the air. The refrigerant is cooled not only by circulation in the circuit with the heat exchanger, but also by blowing the heat exchanger with a fan. The fan is controlled by a temperature sensor and if the outside air temperature is sufficient to cool the refrigerant, the fan will not turn on, saving energy.
  3. Clean and dry compressed air is supplied to the customer’s pneumatic system. It passes through the heat exchanger of the regeneration circuit (point 1) and absorbs some of the heat of the new moist humid air.
  4. Depending on the presence of additional filters and the type of compressor used, the moisture can be cleaned of impurities (oil and solid particles) and clean water can be drained into the sewer.
