What generators are used in road construction and for what purpose?

Like any other construction work, the construction of new or reconstruction of existing roads often takes place in the absence of a connection to a stationary power grid. Even if such a grid is located near the works in progress, the complexity and duration of the process of preparing project documentation for connection to it makes it the most appropriate solution to use diesel generators as autonomous power sources. Given that the production of asphalt and the preparation of other road surface elements is characterized by high energy consumption, and production sites (asphalt plants) are often moved to road works sites, autonomous power supply requires powerful, mobile, economical and reliable power sources capable of operating 24/7.

Synchronization of diesel power plants – when is it needed?

In the case of a phased supply of several diesel generators or the completion of an asphalt plant with insufficient capacity of existing diesel generators, synchronization is an effective solution. To operate in synchronization mode, equipment is selected and configured in such a way as to significantly save on fuel and subsequent maintenance of power plants. For example, at night, when electricity consumption decreases, some generators go into “sleep mode”, and the main work on electricity supply is performed by one or more power plants with the optimal workload in turn. It is worth remembering that during long-term operation, the normal load for diesel generators is 30-70% of their full capacity. Frequent use of low-load diesel generators, in addition to high fuel consumption, will lead to a significant reduction in engine life due to incomplete combustion of diesel fuel and the formation of soot on injectors and other engine parts.

Depending on the customer’s need for the required capacity and operating mode, Dalgakiran power plants are most often equipped with Doosan (South Korea) and Baudouin (France) engines, which have proven themselves in field operation. Among the advantages of the Dalgakiran:

• operate without power loss up to +50°C;
