Reconstruction of the cooling tower for the Recovery Shop at Yuzhkoks PrJSC

Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine builds modern energy-efficient cooling towers for cooling process water at production facilities of all sizes. One of these projects was the replacement of an old cooling tower at Yuzhkoks coke plant that needed major repairs with a modern one.

Uzhkoks Private Joint Stock Company is one of the oldest enterprises in the industry. The company is constantly working to improve the utilization of its production facilities, carry out their technical re-equipment and reconstruction, improve technological processes, and implement promising investment projects.

Due to the growing demand for coking chemicals, it became necessary to increase its output. Thus, the process of reconstruction of all outdated and unprofitable technological processes at the production site was launched.

To increase the productivity of the recovery shop, the need for a constant volume of chilled water at a consistently low temperature also increased dramatically. The investment program for this shop envisaged increasing the cooling capacity of the existing three-section cooling tower 3BG-70 by overhauling one of the sections.

In the process of processing the tender for the overhaul, Dalgakiran specialists proposed an alternative reconstruction program involving the replacement of the cooling tower with more modern Turkish-made equipment. The submitted price proposal for the replacement of the cooling tower was comparable in cost to the overhaul of the old cooling tower. Various factors were taken into account in the selection process, including: major capital expenditures, construction and installation costs, electricity costs, maintenance costs during the life of the cooling tower, and the cost of makeup water and its reagent treatment.

Cooling towers from Dalgakiran have a number of competitive advantages, including:

  • Two-year warranty for mechanical equipment;
  • Twenty-year warranty on the cooling tower casing;
  • Certification by the leading independent organizations Eurovent and CTI, which confirms the equipment performance, power consumption and sound pressure levels declared by the manufacturer;
  • The cooling tower shell is made of fiberglass. This is a composite material consisting of polyester resin reinforced with fiberglass. The strength of GRP cooling towers is not inferior to their steel counterparts.

Fiberglass is protected from ultraviolet radiation and is characterized by high resistance to compression, deformation and impact. It is resistant to temperature and humidity changes and does not deform when exposed to them. Fiberglass is not subject to corrosion and decay, and has excellent resistance to poor-quality feed water and aggressive impurities, including acid and chlorine. Flammability is minimized with the help of flame retardants.

Cooling towers from Dalgakiran have additional competitive advantages that simplify the installation and operation of the equipment:

  • The panel design ensures simple and quick installation and integration of the cooling tower into the water recycling system;
  • The weight of fiberglass is 5 times less than steel counterparts, which facilitates installation and does not require massive support structures for the cooling tower;
  • The large number of nozzles ensures uniform irrigation with minimal water pressure on them, reducing the power requirements for the electric motors of the pumping units;
  • The droplet structure of the sprinkler prevents clogging in the case of untreated recycled water;
  • The sprinklers are made of polypropylene, which does not deform even at high water inlet temperatures of up to +80 °C;
  • The confluent transition from the square cross-section of the cooling tower to the cylindrical cross-section of the fan ensures optimal aerodynamic flow of the steam-air mixture. Together with the perfect circle axial fan casing, this results in maximum performance at the lowest possible installed motor power.

Fiberglass cooling towers from Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine are the best solution for replacing old steel and reinforced concrete cooling towers. They provide the longest service life with minimal operating costs throughout the entire project life cycle.
