Mobile diesel generator set for driving electric open-pit excavators and drilling rigs at YuGOK

In August 2019, Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine, a leader in the supply of diesel generators for backup, emergency or autonomous power supply, delivered a mobile diesel generator set (DGSU) to Northern GOK (Metinvest).

The unique diesel generator set manufactured specifically for Northern Mining and Processing Plant is a mobile power plant that meets all the customer’s production goals and objectives.

DGPU-1 is designed to distill electric drilling rigs SBSh-250 and excavators EKG-8, EKG-10, EKG-12, as well as to solve local problems at the mining and processing plants related to the lack of power supply.

The main objective of DGPU-1 is to reduce labor costs and time required for the transfer of electrical equipment. Previously, high-voltage lines had to be reinstalled to move them, which required significant labor and time resources. Thanks to the solution from Dalgakiran, the distillation is carried out in the shortest possible time, and the excavators and drilling rigs are controlled from the control panel equipped with a mobile diesel generator set. The overall reduction in labor costs and the costs required to reinstall high-voltage power lines has significantly increased the efficiency of the quarry.

The mobile unit is equipped with a Cummins Power C550 D5e diesel generator, which is equipped with a powerful Cummins QSX15G8 engine. The fuel tank volume is 711 liters, fuel consumption is 88 liters per hour, and the continuous operation time is at least 8 hours. One of the main advantages of the power plant is that it can take 100% of the load in one step. At the same time, the plant operates without loss of power at temperatures ranging from minus 30 to plus 50 degrees Celsius.

DGPU-1 consists of the following main units:

• MAZ chassis, 6X4 wheelbase, manufactured in Belarus;
• anti-vandal container with all subsystems;
• a Cummins C550 D5e diesel generator with a capacity of 550 kVA and a voltage of 0.4 kW;
• control cabinet for the excavator’s electric motor.

The mobile unit is equipped with a 400-volt switchgear and an external push-button control panel mounted on the container body. In addition, the power plant is equipped with drums with 60 meters of power cables.

Thanks to a unique technical solution from Dalgakiran, all the components of the mobile diesel generator set were able to fit into a compact 20-foot container. The unit is equipped with a heating system, as well as interior, exterior and emergency lighting systems. Thanks to the container’s design, low-noise mufflers and efficient exhaust system, the power plant is highly noise-insulated. For additional safety, emergency stop buttons are installed on the outside of both sides of the container.

DGPU-1 was built according to the terms of reference agreed with PJSC Severny GOK, developed by our design and technical departments and includes a range of complex engineering solutions. The power plant has a certificate of conformity, declarations of technical regulations and a full set of technical documentation in accordance with the regulatory framework of Ukraine.
