CENK fan cooling tower for Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol

CENK fan cooling tower for Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol

Within the framework of long-term cooperation between Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine LLC and PJSC “Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol” (Metinvest Group), one of the largest enterprises in Ukraine with a full metallurgical cycle, a large-scale project was implemented within a four-month period (from January to May 2018), including the installation and commissioning of the CENK 4 EFM 1050 cooling tower.

The task set by the customer to Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine LLC was to build and commission a new ventilation cooling tower that would provide efficient water cooling from 50°C to 30°C for further supply to tuyeres and embrasures of blast furnaces No. 3, 4, 5 at Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol. Ilyich Iron and Steel Works. After a thorough study of the technical specification and all the conditions for its implementation, the Contractor opted for a 4-section cooling tower CENK 4 EFM 1050 made of high-strength, non-flammable fiberglass, whose capacity allows cooling water volumes from 5200 m3/h to 5400 m3/h. The total weight of the constructed cooling tower is 110 tons, this unit is fully automated and equipped with a complex with low-frequency converters equipped with displays, the screens of which display all the sensor readings necessary for the controlling operator in real time – pressure, temperature, levels, flow rates, etc. All electric motors, as well as converters and the control cabinet, are manufactured by Siemens AG, a German concern, a world leader in the field of power equipment, electrical engineering, and electronics. The manufacturer’s warranty for the CENK 4 EFM 1050 cooling tower structure is 25 years, which indicates the high quality and durability of the construction materials.

Dalgakiran Compressor Ukraine started the project at the end of January 2018, successfully meeting the four-month deadline agreed with the customer for commissioning the cooling tower, which was carried out manually on May 29, 2018. As a result of the project, invested by Metivest Group in the amount of UAH 23 million, PJSC “Ilyich Iron and Steel Works of Mariupol” has reached a new stage of development: the productivity of blast furnaces has significantly increased (by 25%), the volume of wastewater has decreased, the supply of river water to production has been reduced from 2000 m3 to 600 m3, and the tuyere fire at the furnaces has completely stopped.
