Effective compressed air purification from hydrocarbon impurities

Compressed air that is completely free of traces of oil is in some cases a prerequisite for food and medical industries. The classic solution to this problem is to use a carbon filter system or a compressor based on an oil-free screw compressor. Both solutions have a number of disadvantages in use, both in terms of technical and operational costs.

A technical innovation for producing oil-free air is the MSS system, a compressed air purification unit for hydrocarbon impurities developed by Mikropor.

Due to the energy-saving oxidation process and the absence of the need for waste disposal, the MSS system is an economically and environmentally sound alternative to coal filters and oil-free compressors.

Hydrocarbons are split in the MSS system using a catalyst through which compressed air is passed.

The catalyst is a solid, highly porous system with a large active area, which achieves complete splitting of hydrocarbon molecules. Air and oil molecules falling on the active centers of the catalyst’s working surface are retained, broken into pieces and immediately react with oxygen.

This process is repeated until the oil molecules are completely broken down into carbon dioxide and water, which leave the purification unit as natural components of the compressed air.

Characteristics:

• The guaranteed service life of the converter, while maintaining air quality at the level of class 1 according to ISO 8573-1, is at least 15,000 hours throughout the entire period of operation.
• The condensate is completely free of oil and has the quality of drinking water.
• Due to the constant oxidation and simultaneous “renewal” of the catalyst, the current deterioration in performance and air quality is excluded.
• Other hydrocarbons entering the system from the environment are also oxidized to water and carbon dioxide.
• The catalyst operates evenly throughout its entire service life, regardless of air humidity, compressor outlet temperature, or oil concentration at the compressor inlet.
• The MCC system can be used for any type of compressor.
• The MCC system can be installed at any time to an existing compressor system.
