Water-ring vacuum pumps (WRVP) are designed for pumping gas and non-aggressive vapor media by means of a vacuum generated inside closed units. It should be emphasized that only water can be used as a working medium for VVPs. Water-ring vacuum pumping equipment has a high degree of reliability, durability and efficiency, so it has proven itself in a variety of industrial sectors and areas, the main ones being:
- chemical industry: distillation, crystallization of coloring compounds and agricultural fertilizers; drying of organic solvents, synthetic fibers, amino plastics, PE-RT; dissolution, sorption of toxic gases and hazardous liquid media; vacuum impregnation in the production of capacitors, electric motors, cables, transformer units, etc;
- woodworking and pulp industry: production cycles for drying, processing and refining wood; vacuum filtration and pulp production; production of paper and cardboard materials, etc;

Design of water ring vacuum pumps (WRV)
Water is used as the working fluid in water-ring vacuum pumping equipment, which is why it is called this way. The design of the VVN is a cylindrical casing partially filled with a liquid medium, inside which an eccentrically arranged rotor equipped with an impeller (radial blades) rotates. During the rotation of the impeller, its blades capture the liquid medium and then throw it against the walls of the casing, resulting in a rotating liquid ring inside the casing. A sickle-shaped space is formed between this liquid ring and the impeller hub, which is the working cavity of the unit, which is divided by the blades into separate cells of variable volume. An increase in the volume of the cells leads to the suction of liquid.

There are three main types of water-ring vacuum pumps:
- Single-stage HPVs with one working chamber (monoblock)
- Single-stage HPVs with two working chambers
- Two-stage VVNs with two working chambers
Single-stage units with a single working chamber are lightweight, small in size, have relatively low performance and low cost, and are equipped with a single impeller. Due to the increasing axial shaft beats, the power of this type of HPW is limited to 11-15 kW. With large dimensions, the equipment of the pumps changes, they consist of 2 discharge and 2 suction nozzles, 2 impellers on one shaft and 2 working chambers – this design reduces the axial load on the bearings. Single-stage units with two independent working chambers are equipped with pairwise connected nozzles. Two-stage units with two dependent (as opposed to single-stage VVH) working chambers are equipped with 2 impellers. The outlet nozzle located in the first chamber is connected by a manifold to the inlet nozzle located in the second chamber, so that the working medium moves first through the first and then through the second chamber, thereby increasing the vacuum depth. The main advantage of this type of pump is additional purification of the pumped medium and the ability to develop increased outlet pressure.
