Standby Gas Generators

When installing a backup power plant that runs on mainstream natural gas, an automatic transfer switch (ATS) is used to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

A gas generator with automatic start is designed for backup power supply in case of failure of the main power source. Such a generator does not require round-the-clock operation for weeks or months. Consequently, the generator itself is significantly cheaper.

Gas generators with automatic start on natural gas are convenient primarily because the supply of a gas main eliminates the need to transport and refuel equipment, and gas itself is cheaper than diesel fuel. For an enterprise that needs a reliable backup power source, this choice can be considered optimal.

Depending on the power, the generators use engines from the following manufacturers:

• For power outputs of 300 kW and above, power plants can be equipped with engines from the Swedish manufacturer SCANIA (part of the Volkswagen AG – MAN holding).
• DOOSAN engines are used for generator power from 100 to 300 kW. DOOSAN is a South Korean industrial group engaged in the production of a wide range of industrial equipment, including engines for diesel and gas power generators.
• For power from 100 to 150 kW, it is possible to equip with engines from Shanghai Diesel Engine Co. SDEC (CHINA). This company specializes exclusively in the development and production of diesel and gas-powered power plants.
• Gas generators with a capacity of up to 90 kW can be equipped with LOVOL engines (China, part of the state industrial holding Shandong Heavy Industry Group Co.) or Yavuz Motors (a young Turkish company founded in 2002, engaged in the production of engines for electric generators).

Depending on the model and the customer’s wishes, alternators from Leroy Somer (France) or Crompton Greaves (India) are used in the backup gas-fired power plants.
