How to choose the power of a diesel generator

Experts recommend using equipment with a power reserve of about 15-20%. In this case, it is desirable that the final power corresponds to the “basic mode”. The main mode is the power generated during long-term continuous operation. The “standby mode” indicator means the peak power that a diesel generator set can produce during short-term operation under maximum load. It is best to consult with our specialists about the electrical equipment used at the facility (the nature of the load) to calculate its total power and select the optimal model.

Installation and connection of the generator

If there are no issues with choosing a location and connecting a low-power generator, then industrial-grade equipment has requirements of a completely different level. For example, the 500 kW DALGAKIRAN DJ-BD diesel generator weighs almost 8 tons.

Such a mass requires a strong, stable foundation, because vibration occurs during operation. The site itself must meet safety requirements, because we are talking about equipment with a 1600-liter fuel tank. In addition, access for maintenance personnel must be provided. When the site is ready, and the 500 kW SPP has been delivered and unloaded, it’s time for electrical work. We lay cables, install a switchboard, grounding, connect cables, and possibly install additional equipment.

Next, our engineer carries out commissioning, which guarantees the commissioning of the diesel power plant. Filling with diesel fuel, coolant and oil, checking connections and starting up.
