Diesel engines of the QSX15 series

The Cummins QSX15 series of medium-load industrial power plants powered by diesel engines is represented by four models: C400 D5e, C450 D5e, C500 D5e, C550 D5e with capacities of 400, 450, 500 and 550 kVA, respectively.

Purpose of the C400 D5e – C550 D5e electric generators

These modifications belong to the application class G3 according to ISO 8528 (standard for alternators). The power plants are connected as:

• backup power supplies (PS) – ESP (Emergency standby power);
• short-term IP for major consumers – LTP (Limited-time running power);
• basic COP (Base load (continuous) power) or prime PRP (Prime power) IE for consumers with variable and constant loads and overloads up to 10%.

The main elements

• Cummins electric generators are driven by a 4-stroke 6-cylinder diesel engine QSX15: volume – 15 liters, ignition voltage – 24 V, filters – fuel with water separator, dry air filters, centrifugal oil filters
• Alternator: 2/3 pitch stator windings, rotor on one support bearing, connection to the drive – disk damper coupling
• Microprocessor control, data output to the LCD panel of the PowerCommand 2.2 (or PowerCommand 3.3) panel
• Radiator cooling system with 24 liters of coolant (removes 16700 BTU, or approximately 56 kW of heat energy per minute)
