Diesel engines of the 6CTA series

Cummins Power stand-alone industrial generators with 6CTA diesel engines are classified as G2 according to ISO8528, which means they are designed to power lighting systems, forced ventilation, pumps and compressors, and lifts (elevators). The power of the C220 D5 and C250 D5 models is 176 kW and 200 kW, respectively, with the volt-ampere values indicated in the digital index. 5 indicates a frequency of 50 Hz (Cummins is an American company, therefore, for users in the United States and South America, modifications for 60 Hz are available, for the corresponding standard of power grids).

Purpose of Cummins C220-250 diesel power plants

ISO8528 regulates the applications and tasks of alternators and typifies consumers. Cummins generators are used in 4 modes:

• ESP backup power supplies (emergency networks, warning and security systems, and other engineering networks);
• sources for regular consumers, but with a time limit of several hours (LTP);
• Primary power supplies (PRP) for variable loads (with a permissible overload of 10%);
• main power generators of permanent use (COP) in buildings and structures that are not connected to the public or industrial power grid.

Operating parameters of Cummins industrial generators

• The generated electric current is alternating, with a frequency of 50 Hz, 220 V and 380 V (1 and 3 phases, a complete list of modes is in the data sheet)
• Noise level – 96 dB during operation (according to Directive 2000/14/EC)
• Fuel consumption at full load – 50 and 57 liters per hour
• Exhaust gas volume – up to 40 m3/min

Plant components

The Cummins 6STA series diesel generators differ from the QSB7 line in cylinder block volume and high ignition voltage (24 V).

• The engine is a 4-stroke diesel engine with 6 cylinders (8.3 liters in total), single-row, turbocharged and direct injection. Filters: dry air filter with replaceable elements, oil filter with moisture separator.
• 2/3-step alternator with single-bearing rotor, class H insulation, fan cooling.
• The radiator cooling system removes up to 22 kW (6,722 BTU) of heat energy per minute from the plant, with a coolant volume of 12 liters (including the radiator).
