The role of compressed air dryers in modern production

The role of compressed air dryers in modern production

Today, there are many industries that require compressed air to function properly. However, it is not just a certain volume of air, but purified, prepared air that must be used according to strictly defined parameters.

In order to obtain clean, dehumidified air, an economical and energy-efficient equipment is usually used – an industrial air dryer. Its role in modern production can hardly be overestimated, because the dryer allows you to get compressed air with prepared indicators: temperature, moisture, pressure, degree of purification.

First of all, clean and dehumidified air is not only a guarantee of high-quality products in the food and chemical industries, microprocessor manufacturing, etc. First of all, properly conditioned air protects workers from many lung diseases and structures and equipment from premature corrosion.

The need to control the quality of compressed air

In practice, it is very difficult to draw parallels between the quality of compressed air for technological processes and the global capabilities of a supplier responsible for air quality. No less important is the issue of energy saving during air purification and dehumidification.

In general, the quality of compressed air in Ukraine and many other countries is determined by the ISO 8573 standard. It has 9 parts, where the first part is the most popular because it deals with the quality of drying.

When answering the question of why it is necessary to constantly monitor the quality of compressed air, it is worth paying attention to the industries in which it is used. For example, there are critical areas such as the pharmaceutical or food industries, or the production of precision parts, where the air condition is critical. Thus, in order to ensure that the production process fully meets the world’s high standards, it is very important to constantly monitor the quality of compressed air used in the production process.

How compressed air dryers work

The majority of air dryers operate according to an identical algorithm: first, moist air is sent to the evaporator. Then it is dried, after which it is returned to the original environment.

Particularly popular are adsorption dehumidifiers. In this case, moisture is absorbed from the air by an adsorbent in a housing with a heater and a fan. The chemical reaction results in the dehumidified air being compressed. We are talking about powerful devices that have maximum efficiency. It is important to add that such dehumidifiers can work even with air cooled to sub-zero temperatures.

The most powerful dehumidifiers are industrial dehumidifiers. They are designed to dry the air without damaging equipment or work processes. Despite their large size, industrial dehumidifiers are characterized by the highest performance.

Protecting equipment from corrosion and wear

Moisture is a major factor affecting the condition of metal structures and components. In addition, moist air can contaminate pneumatic machines, reducing their efficiency. Above all, moisture prevents many industries from producing high-quality products.

That is why dehumidifiers and filtration systems are used in practice. They help to remove moisture from the air before compression and prevent further corrosion of metals.

The choice of a particular type of air dryer should be made based on the needs dictated by the production process. Continuous monitoring of the system’s performance and regular maintenance minimizes the risk of corrosion of metal structures and parts.

Improving the efficiency of production processes

Only modern production requirements and high quality standards allow us to produce the right products. First of all, production must be supplied with proven raw materials, high-quality energy sources and all the necessary conditions, where dehumidified compressed air is not the least.

Thus, the higher the quality of compressed air treatment, the better it is for production and for end users who will receive safe products in any industry.

Saving energy and resources

In recent years, many industries have been switching to renewable energy sources to protect the environment and save resources. When it comes to air drying, it is extremely important to save energy used for this process. For example, heat energy can be released when the air is being dehumidified. The regeneration of the coolant can significantly save resources for other production needs.

However, the most important task facing modern enterprises is modernization. Thus, replacing old equipment with modern analogues can significantly save time and energy, increasing production capacity.

The use of dehumidifiers in various industries

When you know how dehumidifiers work, it’s time to pay attention to the industries in which this type of equipment can be used:

  • Finishing works and construction. Refrigeration or adsorption devices are usually used here. For example, if the air temperature is +15°C, an adsorption dehumidifier is installed. Refrigerated dehumidifiers are used when certain materials need to be dried quickly.
  • Pharmaceutical and chemical industries. When performing various jobs using loose, hygroscopic materials, it is often a challenge to always maintain hygienic cleanliness to meet production requirements.
  • Production of wood products. Fresh wood after cutting and processing has a high moisture content. In order to prepare wood for further production processes, you need to choose the right dehumidifier. It will not only help remove excess moisture, but also maintain a special temperature regime.
  • Electricity. A lot of electrical equipment can only operate smoothly if specific air humidity parameters are maintained. Therefore, it is also important to use dehumidifiers here.
  • Museums and archives. Documents stored in archives and museum exhibits are items that require strictly accurate temperature and humidity parameters. That is why it is necessary to install dehumidifiers in these institutions.

It should be noted that not all industries where air dryers can be used are listed here. In any case, in order to make the right choice of equipment (in particular, compressor equipment), it is recommended to contact experts who will make the right calculations to select the equipment that meets the needs of a particular enterprise.
