The water-cooled variable frequency drive HIVERT-Y/T series is widely used in various industries and differs from other VFDs by its efficient cooling system, which ensures its operation in conditions of high temperature of the working environment.

Components of high-voltage frequency converters HIVERT-Y/T with water cooling

The cooling system of the HIVERT-Y/T series consists of the following components:

  1. compressor;
  2. capacitor;
  3. expansion valve;
  4. plate heat exchanger;
  5. cooling fan;
  6. water tank;
  7. water pump;
  8. circulation pump blade.

The water circulation system consists of two parts: the internal circulation system and the external water circulation system. The circulation of water between the plate heat exchanger and the power cell in the water cooling cabinet is called the internal water circulation system, or primary circulation. At a constant pressure and flow rate, the cold water flows through the heat exchanger to the power cells in the HPC to remove heat.

The water cooling system plays a key role in the operation of the HIVERT-Y/T series, but it is composed not only of the above components, but also of other elements of the frequency converter.

Transformer cabinet

The transformer cabinet consists of two parts: the transformer tank and the water-cooled air conditioner. For cooling, the water-cooled air conditioner uses phase shift and forced air cooling to remove heat from the transformer through the air duct to the heat exchanger tube. At the same time, the chilled water in the heat exchanger tube absorbs heat and is then discharged through the outlet. The water temperature in the heat exchanger is kept below 33 °C.

Features of the transformer

The pipeline is equipped with control and measuring devices that monitor the temperature of the water and the parameters of its supply to the cooling system. At the top of the heat exchanger is an air valve, and at the bottom is a drainage valve through which the circulating water is gradually drained to regulate the temperature.

Temperature sensors installed at the fan inlet and heat exchanger outlet respectively monitor the transformer operating environment in real time. A PT100 temperature sensor is installed in the primary and side windings of the transformer to monitor the temperature of the transformer winding channel.

Circulating water cooling unit

The cold water is pumped through the circulation pump to the heat exchanger and absorbs heat, then to the inlet of the main circulation pump, forming a closed cooling system. The system control module automatically adjusts the heat exchange rate according to the setpoint of the cooling water temperature, thus controlling its temperature to the nearest degree.

The HIVERT-Y/T series is designed to operate in a high voltage environment, as the cooling water must have a high resistivity. For this purpose, the cooling circuit deionizes the water flowing through the heat exchanger by precipitating ions from equipment and pipelines. To maintain a constant pressure in the pipeline and to offset the effect of volume changes due to temperature changes in the cooling water, a buffer tank and a water filling device are installed in the system.

Features of the circulating water cooling unit

All parts of the cooling circuit are made of stainless steel with high anti-corrosion properties. The circulation unit is equipped with a water leakage monitoring and alarm system, a condensate and water temperature sensor.

Power elements

The heat of the power cells is dissipated mainly by water cooling and partially by air cooling. The main pipe of the power cell cabinet is made of stainless steel, and a rubber hose is used to connect the power cell and the main pipe.

Areas of application for the water-cooled units of the HIVERT-Y/T series

HIVERT-Y/T series water-cooled variable frequency drives are used in industries with high ambient temperatures where constant and efficient cooling of equipment is required. They are used in metallurgy, coal mining, power generation and light industry, mainly for ventilation systems.
